Nikita and Daddy are sleeping on the ferry

by admin on Mar.05, 2010, under NIKITA

How lazy is this…

We are on our way to Tofino to photograph a wedding. Nikita has fallen asleep while we were catching a breeze on the ferry so I decided to take a quick nap for a photo opportunity with my son :)

Charity’s Photoshoot

by admin on Mar.04, 2010, under FASHION

I had a pleasure to work with Charity.  She is a professional model represented by John Casablancas.

Charity has a very photogenic look and she is very easy to work with.

I wanted to get the look of nostalgic 1970’s so I used print film in some situations to achieve the results that I wanted.

Scanned 35mm film:

Russian Stars in Vancouver during Winter Olympic Games (Sochi House 2014)

by admin on Feb.22, 2010, under REFERENCE

Russian supermodel Natalia Vodianova became the face of the Olympic Games 2014 in Sochi. She opened the presentation in Vancouver.

At the final concert at Sochi House 2014 (Vancouver Science World) Natalia turned 28, I cought a shot of her blowing candles on her birthday cake.

Natalia Vodianova is originally from Nizhny Novgorod, which happens to be my home town!

I  managed to bring my good camera to the Zveri concert in Sochi House 2010 (at Vancouver Science World).

I was standing a few steps away from the lead singer Roman Bilyk (Роман Билык)

Their performance literally blew me away.

I was lucky enough to get some last minute tickets to Gennady Khazanov, the king of Russian stand up comedy. Lucky for me I had my compact Lumix DMC-TZ4 with me. These are the photos I will cherish throughout my life.

And this is the famous Gorky Park, the good old 90’s is back. I remember I bought their cassette when I was 15 years old… These guys never age :)

A staggering performance or Denis Matsuev (Денис Мацуев) — THE WORLD’S GREATEST PIANO PLAYER!!!

Statcounter

by admin on Jan.28, 2010, under HUMOUR, REFERENCE

I have been using the free Statistics Counter for many years now and I just realized, these guys are offering their service for free and I am using their invisible counter, which doesn’t give them any credit.

Statcounter.com deserves their exposure on my website somewhere and this is the best place I could think of crediting them and to say, “Thank You Statcounter!”

With their incredible gift I am able to oversee daily visits to any of the pages on my website, to help me make better decisions on marketing strategies and site map placements.

MORE FILM SHOTS

by admin on Jan.22, 2010, under REFERENCE

I finally got around to bringing my 35mm leica to Vancouver downtown. I always wanted to take a shot of the Vancouver Olympic Countdown Clock with print film. Sure there is an odd photographer who will take a picture of the clock with his or her digital camera but you don’t see too many tourists shooting film anymore

And this is Vancouver Fairmont Hotel snapshot as I got out of my car. This photograph outlines the busy Vancouver modern life with the old hotel dominating the scene.

IR PHOTOGRAPHY

by admin on Jan.15, 2010, under REFERENCE

I have this one framed on my wall. This particular infrared photograph was taken near the Harrison Hot Springs Resort.

I like to take photos with my infrared camera as a hobby, it renders some beautiful images of nature and even wedding illustrative photography. There are several ways of doing IR photography, one of the simplest ways is to convert your existing DSLR to a dedicated IR camera, the drawback is that you can then only use it for IR photography only. On the other hand it makes sence to convert one of your older cameras when you upgrade to a newer body.

I had my camera converted by Camtex as a successful experiment several years ago. They never converted a camera to IR before that time, so I went out and bought a IR circular filter, found a glass shop that would cut that filter to the sensor size of the camera, then the Camtex guys removed the guts and installed this filter in front of the sensor and presto. The cost of doing everything was roughly in the $400.

Indian Wedding

by admin on Jan.12, 2010, under WEDDINGS

I have been browsing through my older weddings yesterday to review my work and I have discovered this Indian Wedding, which I photographed in 2007.

Sikh weddings are very colourful and the red colour compliments perfectly the blue sunny sky. I pride myself in showcasing these wedding photos on my blog as it is a rear treat to attend and photograph a real Indian weddings.

This wedding was photographed on the now obsolete 6 megapixel Nikon D50, I don’t even have that camera anymore but the quality of the images still blow me away. The colours are amazing and I can print huge, flawless poster sized prints from it if I wanted. This just proves that a camera is just a tool and what matters the most is the photographer and proper post processing.

Still I wouldn’t want to trade my 5D Mark2 for the old Nikon D50 simply because I like “newer and better gadgets”.
